This poem is my way of attempting to crawl out of this funk I feel so stuck in lately. Sometimes it’s hard to persevere when we aren’t achieving our goals as quickly as we had imagined.
Every time it rains, it’s as if my body is finally able to calm down. It’s as if rain is the universe’s way of telling me I’m not as alone as I may feel.
Once I realized I was doing a terrible job of listening to and standing up for others, I realized it was because I wasn’t listening to or standing up for myself or my values either.
A Photo-Poetry Collaboration
Society tends to make us feel like there’s something wrong with retreating or distancing ourselves from the world at times. It’s that extrovert ideal again.
Extroverts rule society’s assumptions about behavior because of their natural confidence. It doesn’t help that introverts tend to avoid conflict whenever possible. As a result, we are made to believe we must be outgoing and overly confident to gain success.
Where True Love Is | A Photo-Poetry Collaboration: True love’s first kiss Goes something like this: Acknowledged and embraced, Your insecurities…

In The Road Less Traveled, M. Scott Peck explains that life isn’t about stagnancy, it’s about evolution. He describes spiritual balance as a commitment to reality, love and the possibility of change.
They say you’re sly. No wonder why you seem like me. You frolick, free…
STOP Commenting on my boobs. STOP Making me feel used. STOP Taking away my hope. STOP Deeming women a joke.
Clouds of insecurity Lie beneath my freckled skin And they linger deep within…
Remember when we
Were flying free
What are thoughts if they’re never shared?
Like the jetty, you’ve stood there, getting struck by waves, for years.
